Superficial Siderosis of the Central Nervous System Secondary to Chronic Bleeding From a Lumbar Paraganglioma

چکیده
Superficial Siderosis (SS) is a rare neurological condition which results from hemosiderin deposition on the leptomeninges, subpial and ependymal surfaces of the central nervous system (CNS). Patients commonly present with the classic triad of hearing loss, cerebellar ataxia and pyramidal signs. We report clinical, radiological and pathological findings in a patient with SS due to chronic haemorrhages from a paraganglioma of cauda equina.

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system: A case report
Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system is secondary to chronic subarachnoid bleeding. However, the underlying etiology is not always detected. Superficial siderosis can be diagnosed at MRI by the presence of a hypointense rim along the brain surface on gradient echo T2W images. The authors report a case of superficial cerebral siderosis where the underlying etiology remained undiag...

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system (SSCN) is a very rare disorder caused by deposition of haemosiderin in the superficial and subpial layers of the central nervous system due to repeated chronic subarachnoid or intraventricular haemorrhage. The clinical syndrome of SSCN consists of sensorineural hearing loss, progressive ataxia and spasticity. A 52 year-old woman who has a hist...
متن کاملA patient with superficial siderosis, intraspinal cyst, low-pressure headache and low-lying cord.
Superficial siderosis is a rare condition caused by deposition of hemosiderin in the central nervous system. In recent years, it has been used to identify dural defects connecting the intrathecal space with the intraspinal fluid-filled collection seen in patients with superficial siderosis. However rare reports describe the association of low-lying cord in superficial siderosis patients. We pre...
متن کاملSuperficial Siderosis and Anticoagulation Therapy: Different Presentations, Different Outcomes
Superficial siderosis is a potentially manageable neurodegenerative disorder, caused by chronic subarachnoid haemorrhage and iron deposition along the central nervous system surfaces. Association with oral anticoagulant therapy is well known, but its definite role as a causative agent is yet to be clarified. Two Caucasian women, both under long-term oral anticoagulation: a 74 year old woman wit...
